  1. OMG, I LOVE sushi! I’ve made it at home, but it looks nothing like yours. I have a hard time with the sauces and rolling the rice on the outside.

    • Can you believe this is my first time making it at home?! I was so proud of myself, hahaha. It’s all thanks to my sister though — she’s got this sushi-making thing DOWN.

  3. Your family is so adorable :) And that sushi is baller, I want to dine at Casa de Gretchen!

  4. Love the pictures. You’re bringing all of that stuff to CO right???

    • HAHA! I wish…! Maybe we can convince the organizers to class up the conference with some sushi. Fresh seafood is everyhere in landlocked Colorado, right? ;)

Wow, your sushi looks so professional. I made it once with friends and it was such a fun thing to do. Ours looked nowhere near as nice as yours though.

    • Thanks! Yeah, it was really, really fun. It takes a long time though, you have to prep so many different parts and ingredients! But at least if you have friends and family to do it with you the time passes quickly!

  6. Make me kinda jealous, my Wegmans sushi couldn’t hold a candle to the rolls you guys made. Looking forward to sampling the fruits of all this practice! :)

    • It would have been great to have you here! Somehow I couldn’t quite get the slicing of the rolls down — they kept being stuck together at the bottom, which made for difficult separation. Still not bad for my first time making it though, I think. Practice makes perfect? :)

  7. It all looks amazing!! Absolutely beautiful.

One of my culinary goals for 2011 is to make sushi at home! (The other big one is to make homemade tamales!). And, uh, the year is half over, right? Crap. Better get on that. :)

    • Hahahaha, well, as I learned, it’s super easy! So just carve out some time and do it — with family and friends, because it’s a super fun, super social activity!!

  8. I love homemade sushi :) This sounds like such a fun family event! The sushi looks GLORIOUS!!!!

  9. That sushi looks yummy! Any chance you’ll be sharing the rice recipie?

  10. Ahhhhhh freakin’ amazing!!
